Measurements
We installed a gauge in the mill race that records discharge, water level and water temperature, and a small weather station at the mill measures air temperature, humidity and pressure. The data help us understand the turbine, and one day perhaps a small flood warning for Apelern and Rodenberg.
Our own station is currently paused and will be back online soon. The tiles and charts show all archived readings from September 2019 up to the last measurement on 2 March 2023. The gauges on the map, however, come live from Pegelonline.

Water in the mill race
Discharge in litres per second, water level in centimetres and water temperature. The water level is hidden by default; switch it on in the legend. It is measured just above the waterfall, relative to the top edge of the weir board; when the water is below that edge the level becomes negative and the discharge is 0 l/s.

Air at the mill
Air temperature, humidity and pressure. The temperature sensor was inaccurate and occasionally produced false readings; we hide values above 60 °C as errors.

Map: catchment and river gauges across Germany
The Riesbach drains about 23 square kilometres. The map shows its catchment down to the mill, the catchments of the Rodenberger Aue and the Salzbach, our station and every gauge published by the German Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration on Pegelonline. The colour shows whether the water level is currently low, normal or high. Click a gauge to see its current readings and recent history.
